OUR LOT

Nineteen Sixty I came along, for all the world to see,
Born in our front parlour to Mr. and Mrs. ‘V’.
Our Joan, Janice and Jimmy were already there,
And they got themselves a brother to make it two pair.

Margaret came later and so did our Pebble,
Six of us now, oh, and a dog called Rebel.
It wasn’t too long before we were done,
And Gary came along to join in the fun.

We lived in Newall Street off Eccles new road,
In a house that was always a happy abode.
Three rooms upstairs and Three on the ground,
With plenty of noise as us kids ran around.

We had a backyard with an outside loo,
But that did not matter, we always got through.
The house was damp and in winter cold,
And if we did complain, ‘well get a coat on’ we were told.

It was sometimes easy and sometimes tough,
But we got used to taking the smooth with the rough.
We had plenty to do, we could never complain,
We always played out, both in sun and in rain.

There were people around who would look after us,
Whilst mam went to work, and dad drove his bus.
We’d get fed off Edie Fielding or Granny Whittle,
Debbie and Gary won’t remember, they were only little.

It was Nineteen Seventy when our stay was to end,
And to Daber and Alker our last rent we did send.
Off to our new house a few miles away,
And all our happy memories to rest we did lay.

Off we all went to start a new life,
Wilf and Seven kids, and Joanie his wife.
Brydon close we ended up in a new maisonette
To start the next chapter with new friends we had met.
